I painted a self-portrait recently that was actually more of a character design for myself. Now I've taken all the steps to accomplish the looks I've wished for all this time. Always having such low self esteem that I didn't dare to change my looks the way I really wanted. My self esteem has been non-existent except for my art which has been my way of expressing myself.

I've got a new rule to live by now and I wish everyone could feel good about themselves. It's horrible to live through self loathing.

"You are the main character of your own life, make sure to dress for the part and make the story as exciting and amazing as possible!"

Be glad you found this out early. It took me many many unhappy decades to realize that mostly everyone is so wrapped up in themselves that they don't notice the things that you think are glaring flaws.

I had one person tell me that (during the years when I thought I was so ugly that no one should have to look at me) they had thought I was exotic and beautiful. Go figure.

Beauty comes from the inside. So.....we can be anything we want to portray. You seem to be getting it all together. Good luck on your journey.

P S....I think you are exotic and beautiful. But don't worry. I am a 70 year old straight lady who has only just begun to livei!!!

Gosh, that's one of the best comments I've ever recieved! <3 It's exactly what I want to show people by sharing this. It's really horrible to live with self-doubt and loathing. I wish I had advice on how to love yourself but I don't even know what made me change. Going from complete misery to feeling truly happy and honestly loving myself for real is the best thing I've ever experienced. It also makes me appreciate and love other people more.

I'm happy you have started your real life! It's never ever too late to be yourself and just GO! :D
